F1 chief confirms US Grand Prix in Austin will move to November 2012

The inaugural US Grand Prix will be held in November of 2012 instead of June as originally announced.

Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone confirmed the move to the European press Wednesday saying the move is meant to avoid the heat of Texas in summer.  Ecclestone’s comment on the date change came as part of his answer concerning a copy of next year’s schedule that was making the rounds in the paddock in Hungary.

While there was speculation that the calendar was only a preliminary draft, Ecclestone said it was indeed the final one.

"Before that there was a draft," Ecclestone said. "They (the FIA) were the ones who published it as if it was the final one."

“We have for example moved Austin to November because it's 40 degrees (Celsius) in the summer (104 Fahrenheit),” he added. He also said that the move for Austin is meant to avoid the problems F1 experienced in 1984 when the US Grand Prix was held in Dallas Texas when drivers, teams and fans battled intense heat and the track surface itself began to come apart.

Explaining the Heat Index: How Forecasters Determine How Hot You Feel

Society has measured temperature using Fahrenheit and Celsius since at least the 18 th Century. The heat index has been around just a fraction of that time. Some question how objective a measurement of how you feel can really be.

True temperature is all that's required; wind chill, humidex are confusing numbers

On July 21, the temperature was 37.9 Celsius in Toronto, 36 C in Ottawa and in New York City, where they still use the Fahrenheit scale, it was 91. Those are some pretty hot temperatures by anyone's standards. But it seems that the old-school

Researchers now say that although they have determined 98 percent of the formula, they still can't match the original. Celadon is made by firing a piece of pottery for several days at 900 degrees Celsius (1652 degrees Fahrenheit).

Project 5 – Analog Sensor: Temperature using LM35 « Tutorial by Cytron

The LM35 series are precision integrated-circuit temperature sensors, whose output voltage is linearly proportional to the Celsius (Centigrade) temperature. The LM35 does not require any external calibration or trimming to provide typical accuracies of ±1⁄4˚C at room temperature and ±3⁄4˚C over a full −55 to +150˚C temperature range. Low cost is assured by trimming and calibration at the wafer level. The LM35’s low output impedance, linear output, and precise inherent calibration makeinterfacing to readout or control circuitry especially easy. It can be used with single power supplies, or with plus and minus supplies. As it draws only 60 µA from its supply, it has very low self-heating, less than 0.1˚C in still air. The LM35 is rated to operate over a −55˚ to +150˚C temperature range.
