Cornerstone Financial Credit Union creates scholarship fund
Cornerstone Financial Credit Union will provide 25 $1,000 scholarships to support college-bound students from 25 high schools in middle Tennessee, including Clarksville, Kenwood, Montgomery Central and West Creek high schools in Montgomery County.
“With financial education as the most fundamental component of our brand, a scholarship fund is the ideal way for Cornerstone to support the communities in which we operate, show appreciation for the educators who are the core of our membership, and encourage our young adults to pursue their educational goals,” Hank Flury, CEO of Cornerstone Financial Credit Union, said in a released statement. “We’ve selected schools for this inaugural year from among the school systems that have been in our membership base for so many years.”
The scholarship fund will rotate from year to year among schools in Cornerstone’s coverage area, which includes Nashville, Clarksville, Dickson, Franklin, Hendersonville and Murfreesboro. The scholarship may be offered to students at Clarksville’s other high schools — Northeast, Northwest, Rossview and Middle College — next year.
The scholarship is a one-time only award and is not renewable. The scholarship will be applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment required for course load at accredited, nonprofit two- or four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
Scholarship applications will be selected by an independent committee based on financial need, academic achievement and records, participation in school and community events and an essay.
According to the scholarship criteria, the scholarship was created to meet the needs of students with heavy financial need.
Scholarship recipients must enroll as a full-time undergraduate in the fall of the year for which the scholarship was awarded and continue the entire academic year.
Applications from high school seniors at the selected high schools will be accepted through May 16. The scholarship application and guidelines are available online at www.BankWithCornerstone.org/scholarships.
Founded as Educators’ Credit Union in 1955, the name was changed in 2005 to Cornerstone Financial Credit Union as the organization expanded its membership base beyond the education field.
