Land Rover LR4 Climbs Above Competition in Overall Quality

PEABODY, MASS. (08/10/2011)(readMedia)-- In consumers' minds, total vehicle quality is more than just how a car is built; it is also the emotions it evokes during the ownership experience, according to consumer research firm Strategic Vision Inc. (SVI). The company recently released its 2011 Total Quality Index (TQI), which revealed that the 2011 Land Rover LR4 SUV is tops in its segment, easily beating the second-place Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class.

Strategic Vision's 16th annual TQI is based on feedback from 37,069 car buyers that bought 2011 model year vehicles between September and December of 2010. Car owners were surveyed on all aspects of their ownership experience, from buying to driving, taking into account both complaints and the owner's overall attitude regarding their car. Strategic Vision claims their report more accurately portrays owner satisfaction than other studies that focus primarily on problem areas.

"Taking the entire car ownership experience into consideration results in a clearer picture of what Land Rover offers," said Dave Edwards, general manager of Greater Boston Land Rover dealership Land Rover Peabody. "For one, Land Rover provides an off-road experience that can't be replicated, and our staff creates a relationship with our customer that adds to the pleasure of owning a Land Rover. Those factors get overlooked in studies that focus on problems alone."

In the Near-Luxury Utility segment, no competitor was close to the 2011 Land Rover LR4, which scored 923 points out of 1000. That number was good for second in the entire index, behind only the Jaguar XJ made by Land Rover's sister company. Score breakdowns from the study will not be released, but such a high score means the LR4 is offering a high level of satisfaction for owners, from their experience at Land Rover dealers to driving their new sport-utility vehicles.

Proven utility is one of the ways the LR4 separates itself from the off-road claims of its competition. While the LR4 is more than comfortable cruising the highways of America, it is capable of heading deep into the woods and beyond thanks to its innovative off-roading equipment. Each LR4 features Hill Descent Control to make going down steep inclines painless, and Gradient Release Control refines throttle operation when climbing challenging hills. There is also a four-corner air suspension that can increase ride height for rough terrain and lower the entire vehicle to make loading and unloading cargo easier.

Land Rover has been very confused as to what to do with its Defender replacement. Over the last decade, we've seen sketches, drawings, and heard of ideas for a Defender replacement, but they were usually met with uproar in the enthusiast community.

Land Rover LRX: Round Two in British Ugliness Sweepstakes | The ...

I think you miss the point. Both of these “ugly” British SUVs are concepts. Concepts, as most people know, are used to test the marketability of an idea for a product (car). Secondly, ugly is far from fact. Quite frankly I disagree with your Opinion that these are “Ugly” vehicles and yes, the “squashed-down rear quarters” are in style. Along with the rest of both designs, that styling makes them appear Bold and Powerful. This styling set the pitch of the vehicle to make it appear more muscular. In any case, these are very bold moves by both companies whether you like the move or not. Besides that, these vehicles will probably never be produced considering they are Concepts.

“And all those front-end styling tricks, sculpted panels and flow lines. What happened to simple, form-and-function cars?”

Not everyone wants to schlep around in drab family econoboxes. While I appreciate classic vehicles in their historic perspective, I would gladly own an LRX and support design that is moving forward and not mired in the past.

I like it. I would be happy to see it on the streets and lanes. While I am a Land Rover enthusiast I am not oblivious to their faults, but these are terrific vehicles that they are producing now. I’m proud of where they come from and we should applaud the men and women that produce them. Or should we stand in line and beat them with a stick?

This car is amazing! I’m sooo getting it when i’m 17!!!! Don’t care what the price is wether its 100,000.00 i’m still getting it!! You lot auta be CRAZY if you dont like this car!! WERIDOS if you don’t like it!!! hahahaha!! Yous that do love ya you will have an amzing life!!! well done!!! OTHERS THAT DONT LIKE IS LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This concept is quite likable and probably is the direction that LR is headed in the future. Their RR has been great, but its a tad old these days, with lots of new designs coming up from competition, while the RR has pretty much remained the same. Its about time that LR has started brewing something new on the design front, so far, I think that brewing has some future.

Binoy

Completely agree with all that say that this car is beautiful. The nay-sayers are hardcore LR fans who don’t want the designs to look forward. Unfortunately, if you look at the previous concepts – RR stormer which became the RR sport (as previously mentioned), and the Jaguar C-XF, which become the Jaguar XF; you’ll come to the same conclusions….Jaguar/LR have a habit of turning beautiful concepts into DULL and BORING production cars!
