DIY Custom Wall Clock | My Perfect Mess
I’m not sure why I haven’t made my own wall clock before! This was so easy and inexpensive!
DIY Wall Clock Supplies:- A cheap wall clock (don’t spend more than $10 bucks)
- Scrapbook paper
- Number stickers
- Glue (I prefer Mod Podge Matte)
- Sponge brush to apply Mod Podge
The clock I used was free, the scrapbook paper was .80 cents, the stickers were $1 dollar, Mod Podge and sponge brushes were $6.
Total Cost = $7.80
Here is the before shot of the clock… (Keep in mind I am so not a photographer and I was doing this at ten in the evening… photo-grace is appreciated)
Boring! I like Quill but I don’t really want to decorate my home with their office supplies.
First I took the clock apart by unscrewing the four screws in the back. (Like my pink finger nails?)
The back came off easily. The actual clock paper? Not so much. Apparently it was glued to the clock.
Sigh.
It took a good five minutes of peeling and scraping to get it off. If I wasn’t covering it with white scrapbook paper I wouldn’t even have bothered trying to get it off.
* Take note of the ORDER the hour, minute and second hand are in so you can put it back together correctly. Ahem… don’t ask how I know that.
I used the glass on the frame to trace a circle on my scrapbook paper, cut it out and stuck it on the clock.
Next came the numbers. I only used 12, 3, 6 and 9. You can also print numbers directly onto the paper in your printer but I already had some stickers.
Align the stickers on the clock and press them down.
BEFORE you glue anything make sure the hands freely move around the clock otherwise they will get stuck and you’ll have a broken clock! Even if they stick a little teeny bit it will still mess up your clock and you’ll have to start over.
Once the numbers are aligned properly and the hands can move around without sticking then brush Mod Podge over the stickers. I skipped this step because they are stickers!! I thought they would “stick” to the paper.
They did.
For a whole day.
Then they started falling off.
Moving on…
After your numbers are secure then simply put the clock back together and hang on the wall.
I know mine looks kind of boring but I really wanted something a little plain… it went in my office next to a very loud and busy cork board. The scrapbook paper I used has quotes from poems and authors… I am really happy with it.
