Vision suspends Niagara Falls service

That the airline will not resume flights between Niagara Falls and Florida this winter. Vision began service to Niagara Falls last Dec. 17, running two weekly flights to the Florida cities. Both the Destin and Fort Walton flights also went on to Miami.

“We were told they were modifying their business model,” said C. Douglas Hartmayer , NFTA spokesman.

The NFTA operates both Niagara Falls International Airport and Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Vision has also cut back flights from such other cities as Shreveport, La., Knoxville, Tenn., and Chattanooga, Tenn.

Clay Meek , Vision director of sales and marketing, said the airline was concerned because the Niagara Falls flights were ending in Destin and not going on to Miami like they did last winter.

“For Niagara Falls to work, you really need to connect to south Florida,” Meek said. “The market is there.”

Meek said if Vision can work out a new south Florida-bound route for the winter of 2012, the airline would love to resume service to Niagara Falls.

“It will be heavily considered next summer for next winter,” he said.

The airline flew 150-seat Boeing 737s out of Niagara Falls. Between this past January and June, Vision saw 3,320 passengers fly out of the Niagara Falls airport terminal. It ran 41 flights during that six month period.
