ATI Radeon Xpress 200M driver manual update help please - Tech ...

We recently installed a game called Minecraft to our old Gateway laptop this week but the game keeps giving us an error about the graphics card drivers not being up to date and something about an OpenGL error due to the out of date drivers. I tried to check the Minecraft forums and have seen that ALOT of people get this error but most manage to correct it by updating their drivers. This is where I get stuck though. The drivers on this laptop are dated for August 2006. I tried to auto update the drivers when I go into device manager but it keeps stating that they are already up to date. I then tried to manually update by going to AMD's website as well as Gateway's website, found and downloaded the latest ATI Catalyst Control Center, and then tried to manually install for the drivers to be used for the card. Still a no go because no matter how many times I've tried to uninstall the old drivers, the laptop automatically installs them again wthout letting me choose the ones I've downloaded. I'm not exactly sure where the old drivers are located so I can manually delete them. I tried to search for anything ATI, even removed the new ones I installed, but still couldn't locate them. To get things to work I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Center program and then uninstalled the driver for the video card. I Then somehow managed to get it to select generic VGA (in hopes that it wouldn't automatically install the old driver again after rebooting). I reboot the pc and then downloaded a program called Driver Sweeper to completely remove any files related to ATI. Reboot the laptop again and then installed the latest ATI graphics driver. After the driver install, I then reboot again, opened device manager, checked the date for the driver and it was 01/2007.
